That National Spelling Bee has a bunch of dorks! Where does one learn to be one?

I don't get it, most of them have gles, they talk like something is stuck up their nose. Walk like a de-evolved human. Slouch in their chairs like they don't have a backbone. Laugh like a dying hyena. I'm not putting down intelligence, but where does the "dork" come from?
