The British government can only use British taxpayers' money to subsidise post offices in Britain after obtaining permission from the EU, under the "state aid" rules, and it would have to seek renewed permission before it could continue to pay any such subsidies. EU state aid decisions for the post and telecommunications sector can be seen on the europa website. There is now very little in this country which is entirely free from unelected unaccountable bureaucratic EU interference!!
