Can I plant native climbers close behind a lemon tree or will the citrus fertiliser kill the climbers?

I have several fruit trees lining my fence in my backyard as well. There are also vines growing along the fence in some of the areas - some of the vines are aggressive growers and need continual trimming to keep them out of the fruit trees. We haven't had any problems with the citrus fertilizer affecting the vines, if anything it seems to help them as well.
